Frequently Asked Questions

  • What about roommates?

  • Most first year students will have roommates. Once you get your pairing, go ahead and call your roommate. Sort out what each of you will bring and talk about expectations. It’ll make life a lot easier right away on move-in day.
  • Can I have visitors?

  • Of course you can have friends over. Just understand that you and your roommate must agree on who and when. And you need to accompany your guests the whole time they’re on campus. (You’re responsible for how your guests behave on campus.)
  • Where do I eat?

  • In the Student Center. The dining hall is on the upper level, and the Coffee House is on the lower level. The dining hall offers a continuous meal plan during the week and brunch and dinner over weekends.
  • What about security?

  • Campus safety means good lighting. It means electronic locks in the residence halls and emergency phones across campus. It means security staff and Residence Life professional staff on duty every night. It also means taking responsibility for your own safety. Our campus isn’t 100% secure. No campus is. But we’re always working to make Nebraska Wesleyan one of the safest places to live and work.
  • Is the Greek system right for me?

  • That’s a question you’ll have to answer for yourself. Don’t listen to stereotypes. Fraternity and sorority members have a higher GPA than the University average. They volunteer and are active across campus. Maybe joining a Greek chapter isn’t your thing. But what do you have to lose by going through fall recruitment? It’s a great way to meet people.
  • Is Lincoln a small city or a big city?

  • Yes. The great thing about living in Lincoln (population 250,000) is that it’s so easy to make the city just about whatever you want it to be. NWU is in northeast Lincoln’s University Place neighborhood: a quiet residential community that feels like a nice small town. But we’re also just minutes from downtown where about 40,000 college students go for food and fun. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy both.
  • How easy is parking on campus?

  • When it comes to parking, everything’s relative. Will it be just like pulling up the driveway at home? No. Will you have to walk miles to get from your car to your residence hall like you might at a bigger school? No. You can almost always find a spot within a block or two. And plenty of parking lots are designated for students only.
  • Can I get a job on campus?

  • There are about 600 student jobs available on campus. Students can often find campus jobs that link directly to their interests. And when you need time off to study, you can bet your boss on campus will be more understanding.
