Can you say “groupie”?

I’ve been to 13 Dave Matthews Band concerts since 2004. (Three this summer…)

Hey, coach!

My dream job is anything that makes me never want to retire! Maybe coaching an elite college basketball team. There’s nothing like the thrill of a big game.

If you could be anybody for a day…

I’d pick my dad just so I could see things from his point of view. It isn’t easy having me for a son.

Summer 2008

Summer really did fly by didn't it? It seems like yesteryday I was moving my couch down the stairs of Plainsman 216 and into the back of Andy's truck. I had all my clothes packed and I was ready to head home. Now, I'm just as anxious to get back on campus and back to school!..but I sure will miss summer.

Summertime is the best time of year to catch up on the little things that make life great. I honestly don't think there is a better feeling then sitting outside with your best friends grillling hot dogs and hamburgers in the heat of the sun while tossing a frisbee around until your arm goes numb. This summer gave me opportunity to break the work routine and really enjoy life. I was able to make new friends while catch up with my old ones, hit the road for a weekend roadtrip, swim all day until sun went down, and even sleep in once in awhile. Summer has definitely come and gone too fast.

The highlight of my summer was certainly the 3 day trip I took to East Troy, Wisconsin. Five of my friends and I hit the road at 3:30am one Saturday morning for an 8 hour roadtrip to see the Dave Matthews Band headline two shows at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre. It was the perfect weekend. We got to hear great music, eat amazing food, relax outdoors, and wrap up the summer in style. It was a trip to remember and I can't wait to go back next year!

Now, its time to get down business because school is just around the corner. I wonder how much my books will be this year? Summer, you've gone too fast....

The Suite Life

Ahh the suites. Living on first floor Heim has been awesome so far this year. The suites are kind of a happy medium for campus housing. They are one up from the dorms and a step down from the townhouses. Nonetheless, they have provided for some interesting stories.

Last week BJ was putting golf balls down the hallway of Heim and made one in from the complete other end of the building..or about 75 yards. Nice work BJ! (all luck, no skill). Then a few of us got together to order the Nebraska football game on pay per view. The common spaces in the suites are great area to get together and hang out with friends and watch the Huskers play.

Afterwards we stepped outside to the campus grill and cooked up some steaks for our hallway except they left me to do all the dishes! It definitely was a great way to relax before this week, which is the first true test of the semester. Four tests and a paper! Wish me luck!

Husker Game Day

There is a great vibe throughout Lincoln on Husker football Saturday’s. I have been lucky enough to score some tickets to a few games and let me tell you, it is quite the experience.

Between tailgating, the tunnel walk, and Bo Pelini, it is easy to see why so many people bleed Husker red. Even here on campus the fans make their presence known. Students get together to watch the game in commons areas while sporting their red shirts and pizza boxes, and a few lucky ones brag about their 40 yard line tickets (me).

Looks like it should be a good year for the Huskers. Good luck tomorrow against Mizzou!

Intramural Basketball

The Outlaws are back at it again this fall. Intramural basketball started up last night with a bang. Even though we didn’t win our first game it was still alot of fun. We had a chance to send the game into overtime by Chris’s last second three pointer but it rimmed out!! So close yet so far. Intramurals are a great way to get invovled around campus. Wesleyan has some of the best intramurals available with everything from Easter Egg Hunt to Sand Volleyball. I can’t wait for our next game Sunday night! Go Outlaws!

Hello Winter

The seasons are changing here in Lincoln. Today was probably the coldest day we have had this fall. Its been raining all morning and could possibly turn to snow tonight. The best part about the cold weather is that we can always hope for a snow day. We typically get one or two snow days every year here in Southeast Nebraska. One thing about living in this region is you only have to wait 10 minutes and the weather will change. I think it is time for me to find my sleds next time I go home… snow is on its way!

Dead Week

It is dead week around campus for the next few days. It is strangely quiet around the suites because we have 23 hours quiet hours so that everyone can get some quality studying done. We have 3600 seconds between 9 and 10 pm when we can break the silence and take a study break. Hmm…I wonder how loud my stereo can play… It is so crazy to think how fast this semester has gone by. I have finals next week and then it is on to Christmas! I can’t wait for Winter Break. Wish me luck because I have 5 finals and it is not going to be easy…

Brand New Semester

We just started the spring semester here at NWU. I like to take the new semester as an opportunity to start over and improve on some things from the fall semester. It’s sort of a chance to catch your breath and evaluate your academic progress. My new schedule fits my lifestyle very well and even gives me a chance to sleep a bit on some days!

The weather is definitely changed a lot since last time I blogged. There is currently about two inches of snow on the ground, which is expected for January in Nebraska. I am excited for warmer weather and a chance to get outside for a round of golf at one of the many golf courses Lincoln has to offer.

I better get going though, I need to turn in my registration for the new season of intramural basketball. Go Outlaws!

Spring?

I know its only February but it feels like springtime around campus. Everyone is outside enjoying the beautiful weather. I even saw a few people firing up the grills outside the suites.

One of my favorite things about the campus of NWU is that it has its own Frisbee golf course! There are markers set up all over campus that make for quite the challenging course. All you have to do is go over to the Weary Center and check out a Frisbee golf course map and a few Frisbees and your’re set for an afternoon round of intense competition. It is one of the best forms of free entertainment you can find right here on campus. I think I’ll go find another challenger…

Rounding First Base

I am officially rounding first base of the second semester. I think I have the first test of every one of my classes this week. Wish me luck! It shouldn’t be too bad though. My classes seem to be going really well this semester.

I am going to try to find some time in the next few days to check out some Career Week events. It is a week that Wesleyan puts together to help students expand their possibilities after Wesleyan. They have everything from seminars on how to get jobs in certain majors to chances to practice formal business dinners. I plan on checking out the Student/Employer Networking Reception Wednesday. It will be a chance for me to meet some possible future employers.

This is just one example of why it is great to go to a smaller college like Wesleyan....you get opportunities like this!

Spring Break

Spring Break. Enough Said. See You March 23rd. YES!

Back at it Again!

Spring break is over! The weather was awesome all last week here in Lincoln. It actually felt like Spring! But now I’m back at it again here at NWU. It was a long week. It’s hard to get back into the swing of things academically. We only have a month and a half left of school. Time has really flown by this semester. I need to stay focused in order to make this final push as all my classes start winding down.

The “Big Event” this year was really fun. The Big Event is a time during the spring when the Wesleyan Entertainment Board (WEB) organizes the biggest entertainment of the year, which is free for students to attend. This year we had comedian Bobby Lee perform. I thought he was hilarious. Check him out!

Enough about the weather!

Wow…it’s officially spring. It’s beautiful here in Lincoln. I’ve never see the campus so busy. Everywhere people are playing tennis, frisbee, baseball, jogging, shooting hoops, having a picnic, tanning, riding their bike, playing sand volleyball, and so much more. What a great day to be outside…I couldn’t ask for better weather! I can’t forget about school though. Finals are only a few weeks away! I’ll update about those later…have a good one!

Photo Album

We grilled over 900 hamburgers and hot dogs that day!… This was the family picnic at the Legacy Estates Reitrement Home—where I worked all summer.

Alpine Valley! This is where I saw Dave Matthews Band this summer. Me and over 40,000 fans! (of course, my seats were much closer then this)

Tailgating before the concert… a little frisbee, a little hacky sack, some grilling, and alot of fun.

My friend Bernie and I before the show… trust me I’m excited!

Don’t underestimate this bad boy! It grilled over 20 hamburgers that day. There’s nothing quite like summertime grilling… that’s for sure.
